PHRF
From Carl Doane, MYC PHRF Fleet Captain [cdsailski@yahoo.com]
The 2011 Mass Bay PHRF fleet is alive and well and all racing and cruising canvas boats with a valid 2011 rating sheet will commence the racing season on May 28th with a Boston YC around the buoys competition.
Manchester Yacht Club will host four PHRF races starting with the Patton Bowl Race on Sunday, June 26th, the Crocker Memorial on Saturday, July 16th, the Single/Double Hand Race on Saturday, September 17th, and the Fall Series on Sunday, Sept. 25th. All MYC boats (and their guests) are invited and encouraged to join in for the PHRF racing or Cruising Canvas divisions together with registered boats from Mass Bay Sailing Association (MBSA). Make the time to participate and race this season. Any questions should be directed to Carl Doane.
MBSA runs an additional 20 races in the summer weekends through the second weekend in Oct. Information is available at www.massbaysailing.org.
Cruising Canvas
From Peter Tarr, MYC Cruising Canvas Fleet Captain [pbtarr@gmail.com]
Participants in the Cruising Canvas Division of PHRF events race without spinnakers. MYC will host four PHRF events in 2011 for cruising canvas division: the Patton Bowl (June 26), the Single/Double Hand Race (September 17th) and the Fall Series (September 25). The Crocker Memorial Race (July 16) is the fourth and is usually the most popular cruising canvas event of the season. It attracts boats from many North Shore harbors. The North Shore Channel Race with Hingham on September 10 will end in Hingham this year. These are all fun and exciting sailing events. Join the excitement and race this season.
PHRF Ratings - Required for all Racing and Cruising Canvas Division Entries
To keep the racing fun, fair, and friendly and to support handicap racing, the MYC Race Committee is requiring that all skippers have a valid PHRF rating certificate to score our events. Manchester now has our own PHRF Fleet with club members Andrew Sheriff as Governor and Paul McMahon as Handicapper. The handicapping process is simple:
- Download the PHRF- NE Handicap Application Form
- Open the PDF form and enter your information
- Call Andrew or Paul with any questions, or email andrew@ecys.com
- Print the filled out form and mail it to the PHRF Manchester Fleet, PO Box 253, Manchester, MA 01944 with a check for $30 payable to "PHRF Manchester Fleet."
Plan on 2-4 weeks to receive your new rating.
